Shangpa Rinpoche was born on 12th September 1960
at the border between Tibet and Nepal.
At the age of 2, he was recognised as an incarnation
of the Great Yogi Shangpa Rinpoche,
who was a disciple of His Holiness, the 15th Gyalwa Karmapa.
After going through many hardships, he and his mother finally arrived in
Pokhara, Nepal.
He was ordained by His Holiness, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa when he was 9 years old.
During his tender age, he studied all the ritual arts and memorised scriptures
under the guidance of the late Dupsing Rinpoche and other learned teachers.
When he was 16 years old, he joined the Tibetan Higher Institute of Buddhist Studies
in Varanasi and mastered Buddhist philosophy, literature, poetry, history of
Buddhism and Sanskrit, etc. He also received teachings and empowerment from many
great teachers, particularly His Holiness, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Kunzig Shamar
Rinpoche, Urgyen Tulku Rinpoche, Tenga Rinpoche, Khunu Rinpoche and Khenpo Rinchen.
He went through many short and long retreats at his monastery.
While he was in his fourth year of study, Dupsing Rinpoche passed away and
His Holiness, the 16th Karmapa instructed him to assume the responsibility
as the abbot of the Jangchub Choeling Monastery in Pokhara, Nepal.
In 1982, Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche requested Rinpoche to go to Singapore to be the
spiritual teacher. Since then he has been the religious adviser of the
Singapore Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre and giving teachings and advice to its
members and devotees. In 1991, Rinpoche initiated the search for and purchase
of the Centre's current premises.
In 1997, he was appointed by members in the general meeting to be the abbot of
the Centre. On the 4th September 1998, he was enthroned as the abbot according
to the traditional Tibetan Buddhist procedures in the morning and in the evening
at the Singapore Futsing Association Hall, he was officially appointed as the
abbot in a ceremony held in conjunction with his 39th birthday celebration.
Relentlessly making efforts to spread the Buddha's teachings for the benefit
of sentient beings, Rinpoche has undertaken several other dharma works within
Pokhara and beyond in other parts of Nepal and South East Asian region.
Some of these works bear indications of the continuation of the works of his
previous life. All his dharma works have the full supports of his disciples and
devotees. As a result, Rinpoche has taken on additional responsibilities as
abbot of Vikramashila Buddhist Institute in Nepal, Tharpa Choeling Nunnery
in Mustang, and Drubgyud Choeling Monastery cum Institute in Lumbini.
To manage his works in these areas, Rinpoche established the Shangpa Foundation
in 1996 and became its Chairman with the approval and support of the Nepalese
Government. Rinpoche is currently also the president of Dharmodaya Society in
Nepal, a member of WFB Regional Centre. WFB Regional Centre is an official
Buddhist Organization in Nepal that branches out through the whole of Nepal
to promote Buddhism and it teachings.
Rinpoche is currently residing in Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre, Singapore
and he travels frequently to the other countries to keep in touch with the
progress of his works and to continue with the propagation of Buddhism.
香巴上师1960年9月12日诞生在西藏与尼泊尔的边界。他年仅两岁的时候，被认证为大瑜伽师香巴上师（第十五世大宝法王的弟子）的
转世。经过重重难关，他的母亲带着他到达了尼泊尔的泊迦拉。九岁那年，第十六世大宝法王为香巴上师剃度。
年纪轻轻的他在已故的度星仁波切以及其他的资深老师的教导下，学习了各种仪式上的学艺以及背诵经文。
十六岁时，他报读了位于瓦腊纳西，印度的藏传高等佛教学府，掌握了佛教哲学，文学，诗，历史以及梵文等。
许多伟大德高的上师给予香巴仁波切灌顶以及教导他佛法。这些上师包括十六世大宝法王，红帽法王，乌金活佛，邓噶仁波切，
枯孥仁波切以及堪布任真。他在寺院内闭关多次，闭关时期长短都有。
仁波切修学第四年间，度星仁波切圆寂了。十六世大宝法王委任香巴仁波切为波迦拉，尼泊尔，姜矗措林寺的方丈。
1982年间，红帽法王请仁波切到新加坡当任这里的佛法导师。至今，仁波切当任新加坡噶玛迦如佛教中心的佛法
导师开导度化会员与信徒。1991年，仁波切开始搜寻中心新的处所，最终中心迁移到今天的处所。
1997年，会员通过会员大会委任仁波切为中心的方丈。1998年9月4日，仁波切在早上根据藏传佛法的仪式升座。
晚上，大众为仁波切庆祝39岁的生日并且通过仪式正式委任仁波切为中心方丈。仁波切不遗余力的为了众生
传播佛法，佛法事业遍布东南亚以及尼泊尔。有些事业是继续仁波切前世的事业。所有的佛法事业有弟子与信徒们
的大力支持。
