Mani Dungdrub Project from Lunar to Tibetan Vesak 2008

In today's world where uncertainty and sufferings are abound, Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre Singapore under the guidance of Ven. Shangpa Rinpoche will be holding the 5th Mani Dungdrub Project (100 million recitations of Om Mani Padme Hung) from 19th May (Lunar Vesak) to 18th Jun 2008 (Tibetan Vesak). The Mani Dungdrub project was conceptualized with the motive to generate immense positive karma for all sentient beings and to achieve liberation.

Vesak, also known as Saga Dawa Duchen in Tibetan, is the most holy time for all Buddhists. It commemorates the Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. During this auspicious month, practice is strongly emphasized as it is believed that the effects of every virtuous action will be multiplied 100 million times.

Merits accumulated will be dedicated towards world peace and harmony as well as the happiness and well-being of all sentient beings. Participants may also dedicate the merits to their Gurus or loved ones. The benefit of group practice is analogous to a drop of water merging with the great ocean. It is said that the amount of merits accumulated by each practitioner in the group recitation is the same as that accumulated by the entire group.

Background and History
Venerable Shangpa Rinpoche, the Abbot of Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre Singapore, initiated the first Mani Dongdrub project in 1999. The event was named "Voices of Compassion" and all Buddhists were encouraged to join together in one like-mind towards the noble cause of reciting the Six-Syllable Mantra of Avalokiteshvara.

Buddhists from 15 countries recited 239,788,265 times of Om Mani Padme Hung and dedicated the merits towards world peace. Since then the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Mani Dungdrub Projects named "Universal Mantra of Compassion" were successfully held in Dec 2001, Dec 2002 and May 2007 respectively.
