7 Points of Mind Training 31/07/2007 to 14/08/2007
The 7 points of mind training was extracted and composed by the great Kadampa Master Chekhawa from the entire teachings of Atisha. It is a practice based on the combined Mahayana and Vajrayana methods for the development of Bodhicitta, which is the essence of all the Buddha's teachings.

The root of all suffering is self centeredness or clinging to a self. As a result since beginingless time we have developed habitual tendencies and problems associated with this root cause. The teaching identifies these problems and gives the solutions for their eradication. The mind training instructions emphasize on selflessness and working for the welfare of others. It also help to develop mental discipline and to keep the practice on track and in balance.

The fundamental practice of the mind training is the tonglen meditation that takes in others' sorrow on the in-breath and sends to them all the joy on the out-breath. In the training process, unfavorable circumstances whether internal or external that cause misery or upset the mind will be transformed into factors conducive for happiness. Every circumstance that we come across in our daily life becomes an opportunity for us to develop the awakening mind.

In the series of talk, Shangpa Rinpoche is giving practical instructions that enable participants to integrate them into their daily works and activities and walk the path of enlightenment.

Rinpoche will be continuing his teachings on the 7 points of mind training. He will be teaching on Commitments and Guidelines, the last two points in the 7 points of mind training.

The teachings will be on 31/07/2007, 07/08/2007, 14/08/2007 (Tuesdays) from 8 to 10 pm.
