Khenpo Rigzin teaches Buddhist history and advanced esoteric Buddhist practices using Sutrayana and Tantrayana methods. He earned his Acharya and Khenpo degrees from the Dzongsar Institute - these are the equivalents of a Masters degree and a Ph.D in Buddhism respectively.
These distinctions were conferred upon him by His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin, the present head of the Sakya lineage, and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, founder of the Khyentse foundation which supports the Dzongsar Institute.
Khenpo Rigzin taught at the Dzongsar Institute for over a year before being appointed by His Holiness Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, the late 14th Shamarpa, to serve as a lecturer at the Diwakar Buddhist Academy in March 2013. In May 2013, Khenpo Rigzin was appointed as the academy’s Education Director and concurrently held both positions until May 2016.
Between October 2016 and December 2019, Khenpo was appointed by His Holiness Trinley Thaye Dorje, the 17th Karmapa and current head of the Karma Kagyu lineage, as the Director of Tilopa Buddhist Institute.
Today, Khenpo holds the position of Senior Lecturer at the Diwakar Buddhist Academy. He is also Secretary of the Kagyu Monlam Committee, a position that he has held since 2019. Kagyu Monlam is an international world peace prayer ceremony conducted annually in Bodhgaya, India.
Khenpo began teaching international students in 2017 under the mentorship and guidance of Lama Jigme Rinpoche, the General Secretary for the 17th Karmapa and the international representative for the Karma Kagyu lineage. He travels extensively in Europe and Asia.
